Two or three graphic tees carry the week

A graphic tee is the easiest layer. It works on its own on a warm afternoon, and under a shirt or a light jacket when the evening turns cool. Two or three are enough for a week if you do one load of laundry.

Dress for walking

You will walk far more than you plan to. Choose soft cotton that breathes, and leave the stiff clothes at home. Trains and shops are heated in winter and cooled in summer, so a layer you can take off matters more than a heavy coat.

Temples and shrines

Covered shoulders and knees are the polite choice at temples and shrines. A plain tee with a quiet graphic fits in; beachwear does not.

Sunset Torii T-Shirt

A vermilion torii standing in still water as the sun sets behind a snowy peak, framed by cherry blossoms. Soft jersey cotton in 15 colors, sizes XS–4XL.

Leave room for what you bring home

Japan is full of small things worth carrying back. Pack light on the way out, and keep a folded bag in your case.
